Fundraising for BCMF – Everyone can make a difference!
There are many different ways you can fundraise for BCMF. Over the years we have had a number of people from all over the world fundraise on our behalf. Without their help and the help of our regular supporters, BCMF would not be able to keep up with the numbers of seriously ill children (and now adults and women with gynaecological conditions) who are referred to us through the Mae Tao Clinic and other organisations and hospital in the Thai-Burma border region. Some of the actvities people have participated in to raise money for BCMF have been: yoga; quiz nights; birthdays; conferences; marathons; read-a-thons; attending church services; school events; art auctions; naming ceremonies and even wedding ceremonies!
CURRENT FUNDRAISERS FOR BCMF:
- Alfrink College – The Netherlands: BCMF is very excited to have students and teachers at Alfrink College supporting us in 2012. Please see our ‘Schools and Colleges’ page for more information.
Here are some of the people/organisations who have fundraised for us in the past:
- Anna Le Masurier – Sydney, Australia: In 2011, Anna decided to start reading to raise funds for women who needed surgery for treatable gynaecological conditions on the Thai-Burma border. Her fundraising was a great success and Anna raised over AU$12,000 for the Burma Women’s Medical Fund (BWMF).
- Rosebay Secondary College (Martha Zwartz) - Sydney, Australia: In January 2010, Rosebay Secondary College sponsored two patient vans to Chiang Mai. Year-10 student, Martha, encouraged her fellow students and teachers to get on board and set about raising enough money to cover the cost of two vans. Martha was visiting Thailand with her family and came to the Mae Tao Clinic to see one of the van’s leave for Chiang Mai. Read ‘Rosebay Students to the Rescue’
- Chisholm Catholic College – QLD, Australia: In February 2011, Chisholm Catholic College sponsored a BCMF patient van to Chiang Mai.
- Mark Prosser Art Exhibition – Chiang Mai, Thailand: Mark is an Australian artist living in northern Thailand. Mark held an exhibition in February 2011 and proceeds from the sale of his paintings came to BCMF.
- Mahadevi’s Yoga Workshop – Nambucca Heads, Australia: 16 yoga students dug deep in July 2010 to raise enough to sponsor a BCMF patient van.
- Model United Nations Alfrink (MUNA) – Netherlands: in February 2011, students from a number of countries in Europe got together to simulate the United Nations. They raised money to sponsor a van to coincide with their 3-day conference. They then went on to fundraise more during the course of their event. We are very pleased that MUNA has agreed to support BCMF again in 2012.
- Dr. Ana – Sydney, Australia: Dr. Ana came to the Mae Tao Clinic to volunteer. She was taken by the plight of children presenting at the Clinic with thalassaemia. She urged BCMF to take on Wai Yan Kyaw’s case as a trial. His treatment was successful and BCMF will look for more funding to take the treatment of more children with thalassaemia. Have a look at this inspiring video of Wai Yan Kyaw’s journey to health
- Liz and Ben’s wedding – Sydney, Australia: In July 2010, Ben and Liz tied the knot. Their friends and family gave generously to BCMF instead of a gift registry. BCMF wishes Liz and Ben all the very best for the future and thanks everyone who gave so generously.
- Nila’s Naming Ceremony – Thailand/Australia: In January 2011, baby Nila celebrated her name day in Mae Sot (Thai-Burma border). Her friends and family pooled together to raise money to sponsor a van.
- Jim ‘Running Man’ Pollard – Bangkok, Thailand: In November 2010, Jim put on his running shoes and pounded the pavement of Bangkok to raise money for a special BCMF case. Ma Wint couldn’t get the treatment she needed in Chiang Mai and needed to have specialised treatment only available in Bangkok. Together with many other BCMF supporters, BCMF raised the 300,000 baht needed to cover her treatment costs and the logistics involved in getting her to Bangkok. Read the following articles in the Bangkok Post for more information on her story: ‘Ma Wint hopes for a cure’ (Oct. 2010) and ‘Compassion finds a cure for Ma Wint’ (Dec. 2010)
